Copy trading lets you link part of your account to a trader you choose, so their trades are copied into yours as they happen. It is a way to take part while you learn. But copying someone does not remove risk: a trader's past results do not predict their future ones, and every copied trade carries the same risk of loss as trading yourself.

The risks to weigh first

Copying a trader shares in their losses as well as their wins. Understand these before you start:

• Past performance does not guarantee future results. A trader who did well can lose money at any time.
• You share the losses. Every copied trade carries the same risk of loss as if you placed it yourself.
• Leverage magnifies both sides. If the trader you copy uses leverage, your gains and losses are amplified, and you can lose more than you allocated.
• Strategies can change. A trader can shift approach, take bigger risks, or stop trading, and copied accounts follow along.
• Fees reduce returns. Any profit share or copying fee lowers your net result.
